me, unprompted: the titans curse is such an underrated book and i am tired of people reducing it to just being the most depressing book of the percy jackson series just because annabeth is gone when its so much more than that. like just think about the prophecy. one shall perish by a parent’s hand? one shall be lost in the land without rain? what the fuck? and then it actually happens and youre like wait i thought this was a fun children’s series but no, there are real stakes at hand and these demigods are really dying and even volunteering for the quest knowing that their parent will kill them. rip zoe and bianca. but also, like, the whole subplot with bessie. percy literally just saved that lil cow because he’s a good person? and bessie ended up following him across the country (also prophecied in “the bane of olympus shows the trail”) which hints at him being *the chosen one* who has the power to sacrifice the beast and gain the power to destroy olympus. but then hes like, wait, we cant kill bessie. that is a terrible loss of innocence! and that line hurts more when you realize that percy’s essentially lost his own innocence because he’s watched two people die in the last 5 days. and then thalia accepts immortality because the book was ultimately a story about figuring out where she stands in this world she’s woken up to, and she’s had nothing for herself in the life she lived before so why not be free of the burden? but then we see percys sense of duty coming in when he says, you know what, i WILL be the one in the prophecy. i cant let nico suffer anymore than he already has, i failed him and thalia put it on me but im going to take it because its what right. and then-
