me thinking about how in The Lightning Thief, the action that ultimately breaks the cycle of tragic heroes and diverges Percy’s story from the original myth of Perseus is that instead of killing his stepfather with Medusa’s head himself, Percy chooses to give his mother control over her own life, also foreshadowing his fateful decision to let Luke kill Kronos himself and become the hero of the prophecy in the last book
